Pakistan’s First Green Sukuk for Telecom Sector

PCG BENEFICIARY: Sukuk Investors TENOR: 7.5 years

InfraZamin Pakistan has partnered with Infralectric Private Limited (IFPL), a subsidiary of SC Technologies Private Limited, to structure and support the launch of a PKR 3,000 million Green Sukuk — a Shariah- compliant financing instrument. Backed by InfraZamin's credit guarantee and AAA long-term credit rating, the Sukuk offers investors enhanced confidence through principal protection, marking a significant step in mobilizing private capital for the decarbonization of Pakistan's telecom infrastructure.

Project Impact:

The proceeds from the Sukuk are being utilized to fund IFPL’s deployment of energy-efficient hybrid power solutions at cellular tower sites across Pakistan. This includes:

  • Solarization of 1,955 telecom tower sites through ground-mounted Solar PV systems
  • Installation of lithium-ion battery energy storage and IoT-based monitoring gateways
  • Replacement of diesel-based power with clean, hybrid renewable energy solutions
  • Long-term Build-Own-Operate service contracts with Tier-1 telecom operators, including Telenor Pakistan, Ufone (PTML), Deodar, EDOTCO, and Engro Enfrashare

Alignment with UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs):

This initiative contributes directly to several United Nations SDGs:

  • SDG 7 – Affordable & Clean Energy: Transitioning telecom infrastructure to renewable power
  • SDG 8 – Decent Work & Economic Growth: Creating skilled technical employment across project sites
  • SDG 9 – Industry, Innovation & Infrastructure: Modernizing national telecom energy infrastructure
  • SDG 13 – Climate Action: Reducing diesel consumption and greenhouse gas emissions
  • SDG 17 – Partnerships for the Goals: Public–private collaboration with capital markets and Tier-1 operators

Long-Term Benefits:

This Green Sukuk represents a pioneering step toward transforming Pakistan’s telecom sector. By integrating sustainable energy infrastructure, displacing diesel generation, and enabling grid-independent connectivity, the project contributes meaningfully to national climate goals, energy security, and the long-term environmental sustainability of digital communications infrastructure in Pakistan.
